The inception of an association of, for pediatricians dates back to the days of late professors P.C Bopiah and D.G Benakappa with late Dr. Mallesh and Mohan Reddy in 1975-76.
In Dr. Benakappas words, along with charter president Dr. Bopiah and charter secretary Dr. Mohan Reddy, in 1975, we founded the Bangalore pediatric society, from a small membership of around 25, with objectives of a] to improve the academic and clinical interactions and b]to involve ourselves in social activities benefiting the health of needy children, monthly meetings were always held in Vani-Vilas children’s hospital.
Guest lectures and clinical presentations were hosted uniquely by the members themselves with no pharma help. Audio visual aids were a 35mm manually operated slide projector, an overhead projector and the black board with chalk. Soon, the Bangalore pediatric society would become the Indian academy of pediatrics Bangalore-BPS in 1995, following the guidelines of the central IAP while retaining its identity of BPS.
